Scholarships
The CNHS NJROTC Parents Club awards scholarships annually to graduating seniors who have demonstrated leadership, commitment, and character throughout their time in the program. These awards are funded entirely by parent and community donations.

Requirements
Eligibility
To be considered for a Parents Club scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Active NJROTC Cadet
Must be an active, enrolled member of the CNHS NJROTC unit at the time of application. Minimum two years of participation in the program.
Post-Secondary Plans
Must be enrolled in or accepted to a college, university, trade school, or military service academy for the following fall.
Good Standing
Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with both CNHS and the NJROTC unit. No active disciplinary actions.
Application Process
How to Apply
The application process is straightforward. Plan on about 2–3 hours to complete everything.
Get the Application
Application packets are available from the NSI or through the Parents Club. They are typically distributed in January with a spring deadline.
Write Your Essay
Complete the short essay prompt included in the application. Focus on your NJROTC experience, leadership growth, and how the program has shaped your goals.
Secure Recommendations
Obtain one letter of recommendation from an NJROTC instructor and one from a teacher, counselor, or community leader. Give your recommenders at least two weeks.
Submit by Deadline
Turn in your completed application, essay, and recommendation letters to the NSI by the posted deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

How Winners Are Chosen
Selection Criteria
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee of Parents Club board members. The committee evaluates candidates on the following:

Demonstrated leadership within the NJROTC unit — formal positions, mentoring underclassmen, stepping up when needed -

Consistent participation in community service projects, both through NJROTC and independently -

✍️Essay Quality
Thoughtfulness, self-awareness, and ability to articulate how NJROTC shaped their character and goals -
📖Recommendation Strength
Quality and specificity of recommendation letters from instructors and community members
Important Notes
This is not a GPA-based scholarship. Academic standing must meet the eligibility threshold, but selection is weighted toward leadership, character, and service.
The selection committee’s decision is final. Winners are notified privately before the public announcement at the end-of-year ceremony.

Community members, local businesses, and families can establish named scholarships through the Parents Club. Donations to the scholarship fund are managed by the club and awarded annually at the end-of-year ceremony.

External NJROTC Scholarships
The Parents Club scholarship isn’t the only opportunity. NJROTC cadets are eligible for several national scholarships. Talk to your NSI about these options early — some have fall deadlines.
NJROTC National Scholarship
The Navy offers scholarships to outstanding NJROTC cadets pursuing a commission through NROTC in college. Covers tuition, fees, and a monthly stipend. Navy NROTC Scholarships →
Service Academy Nominations
NJROTC participation strengthens applications to the U.S. Naval Academy, West Point, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy. Start the process junior year.
Veterans & Military Org Scholarships
Organizations like the VFW, American Legion, and Navy League offer scholarships for military-connected students and JROTC cadets. Check local chapter websites for deadlines.

Scholarship FAQs
Quick answers to the most common scholarship questions.
"Can I apply if I'm not sure where I'm going to college yet?"
Yes. You must have post-secondary plans (college, trade school, or military), but you don't need to have committed to a specific school at the time of application. You'll need proof of enrollment before the award is disbursed.
"Is this scholarship renewable?"
No. This is a one-time award for graduating seniors. It is not renewable for subsequent years of college. However, many colleges and military programs offer their own continuing scholarships once you're enrolled.
"How is the scholarship paid out?"
The award is announced at the NJROTC end-of-year ceremony. Payment is made directly to the recipient's educational institution upon proof of enrollment. The Parents Club coordinates directly with the school's financial aid or bursar office.
"Can I apply for both the Parents Club scholarship and external scholarships?"
Absolutely. You should apply to as many scholarships as you're eligible for. The Parents Club scholarship does not affect eligibility for any external awards.
